Our Aspiring Chalet Cooks - Level 1 online course has been perfectly crafted to help you take your first steps towards becoming a better cook and possibly future chalet host. This course brings the alpine experience to you, learning to cook and present delicious dishes as if you were in a real chalet kitchen.
Learn some simple tasty recipes and gain confidence to work safely in the kitchen. With our easy-to-follow recipe cards and video tutorials, let our expert tutors, Steve & Becky, guide you through each of the cooking tasks over the three-month programme.
The course is the perfect choice for achieving your Bronze or Silver Skills section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and upon completion you will receive an assessor’s report for your DofE portfolio and a certificate of completion.
If you’d like to continue your journey, you can progress onto Level 2, an additional three-month course that builds on your skills and supports you in completing the Gold Skills section.

This course is for anyone wanting to improve their cooking skills. You do not need to have any previous cooking experience. The "theme" for the course is chalet style cooking, so is primarily aimed at students who are potentially interested in working as a chalet host in the future, but it would suit anyone interested in this style of catering. It has also been designed so it meets the requirements of the Skills section of the DofE award. As a stand alone course it can be used for the Bronze or Silver award (as it is 3 months in duration) and if combined with the Level 2 it can be used for the Bronze, Silver or Gold Skills award (as it would equate to 6 months learning).
This course is suitable for students aged 14+ completing their Duke of Edinburgh Skills section, or anyone aged 14+ looking to improve their cooking skills. Anyone under the age of 18 will have to complete the parental consent form prior to commencing the cooking lessons.
The course take 13 weeks to complete. One recipe, or meal, is released per week requiring around 1-2 hours of cooking commitment.
This course will help you build your cooking skills and knowledge. It will allow you to gain experience and confidence in the kitchen, as well as be a fun and rewarding activity. You will gain a sense of achievement on completion of the course and this can be used as part of your Duke of Edinburgh Skills section.
To complete the course you will need some general items of kitchen equipment. It is anticipated that you will have most of these at home. The basic items are set out in the course instructions booklet you will receive and you will need access to a hob, oven and grill.
Yes. This is the Level 1 course and can be completed as a stand alone course and you do not need to sign up for any other courses run by Fresh Tracks Chalet Hosting and Cookery School. If you are looking to do this for your DofE Award we would recommend you check out our Level 2 Aspiring Chalet Cooks course which you can progress on to for an additional 13 weeks cooking experience.
You will need access to a smartphone, laptop or tablet to view the lessons. The course can be viewed via the dedicated Thinkific mobile App. If you want to use this you will need to download it from the App Store and sign up. Alternatively you can view the course online. To submit your assignments we would recommend you take photos on your phone so you can upload them and if you choose to complete the logbook you will need to sign up to Canva.
